Nice’s Old Town

Framed by the “chateau” – actually a rocky headland – and cours Sa leya, Nice’s Old Town is its strongest drawing point and, should you only be passing by, the most effective base to capture the city’s historic aura. It has a grid of narrowing streets, darkened by houses five and six levels high with shining sprinkles of washing flapping overhead and jewel-box Baroque churches along every other corner, gives a feeling of magic that seems utterly distant from the Cote d’Azur fast lane.
